Aviation was dangerous
in the 1930s. From the first recorded fatal air crash of 1908 in
a Wright Flyer and up until the 1920s, there were some 32
crashes resulting in fatalities.
Crashes often had up to 12 persons on board. Yet in the 1930s
things worsened as more amateur flyers took to their wings.
During that decade
alone, 250 fatal plane crashes occurred — yet one was a
dirigible: the famous Hindenburg that burned before the cameras
on May 6th of 1937, just two weeks before The Flight — by Amelia
Earhart.
