The
Story of Viola Hartmann, a living Aquatic Champion from the
1920s, who knew champion swimmers, movie stars and celebreties
of the day. A member of the LA Athletic Club, she pioneered
diving and swimming and was one of the first to swim to
Catalina. On the shoulders of the famous and well-known photo of
Duke Kahanamoku, riding tandem on a surfboard in Laguna, is
Viola Hartman.

Catalina Channel Swim
Viola
Hartmann of the L. A. A. C. will lead off for the relay
team and will be the first woman to brave the hazards of
the channel. The Swim is the first of its kind and will
chart the unswum waters from a swimmers perspective and
leard the effects of its currents and dangers of those in
the water. This will precede the swim sponsored by William
Wrigley who has posted a prize of $25,000.
